Cinematic AI filmmaking, shaped by VFX experience

Introduction

A lifelong interest in filmmaking, carried into AI

Skeel Lee

AI Filmmaker | VFX Artist

I've always been passionate about filmmaking. Beyond simply watching films, I've always been fascinated by how they're crafted. From cinematography and editing to visual effects (VFX) and storytelling, I enjoy learning how creative decisions bring stories to life.

That passion led me into feature-film VFX, where I spent more than a decade contributing to major blockbuster movies. Today, I bring that experience into AI filmmaking, not only to generate images and videos, but to evaluate, refine and final them. AI can open up ambitious creative possibilities, but reaching final quality still depends on filmmaking judgement, visual problem-solving and attention to detail, skills that I developed through years of feature-film VFX.

Experience

13 years of feature-film VFX experience

Before moving into AI filmmaking, I worked in VFX on feature films at leading VFX studios. That experience taught me to think beyond the tools and focus on what truly matters: strong storytelling, compelling visuals, and the craftsmanship behind every frame.

Philosophy

Filmmaking first, AI second

Filmmaking has always evolved through new technology. Editing moved from film to digital. VFX transformed how stories could be told. Today, AI is opening another chapter in that evolution. Like every tool before it, its impact depends on the craft behind it.

Craft Before Technology

Great filmmaking begins with story, emotion, and purpose. AI is a powerful creative tool, but it works best when guided by filmmaking principles rather than prompts alone.

Quality Matters

Generating an image or video is only one stage of filmmaking. Whether created with AI or traditional tools, what ultimately matters is the quality of the final shots seen by the audience.

VFX Thinking

My background in feature-film VFX continues to shape how I approach AI filmmaking. Years of production experience taught me to think beyond the tools, focus on the final image, and solve visual challenges without losing sight of the story.

Embracing Change

Filmmaking has never stood still, and neither do I. I enjoy exploring new technologies, new production methods, and new storytelling formats while staying grounded in the principles that make great films timeless.

Technology evolves. Formats change. The craft of filmmaking still comes first.

Production-Ready AI Content

From AI-generated output to final quality

AI can produce impressive images and videos remarkably quickly. Sometimes the result is already strong enough to use as is. Sometimes it is close, but still contains visual errors, continuity problems or details that prevent it from being production-ready.

The key is knowing the difference. I help identify which results should be kept, which should be regenerated, and which can be brought to final quality through targeted AI refinement, cleanup or traditional VFX techniques.

  1. 1AI Generation
  2. 2Evaluation
  3. 3Keep, Regenerate or Repair
  4. 4Refinement
  5. 5Production Ready

The goal is not endless regeneration. It is knowing how to reach the final result.

What I do

Creating, Collaborating, Consulting

Whether I'm creating original films, collaborating on productions, consulting with creative teams or teaching workshops, my goal is the same: helping AI-generated content reach production-ready quality through filmmaking craft and feature-film VFX experience.

AI Films

I create original AI films and cinematic experiments that explore what's possible when filmmaking principles meet modern AI tools.

Collaborations

I collaborate with agencies, studios, filmmakers and creative teams on commercials, short films and other productions that use AI as part of the creative process.

Consulting

I help teams design practical AI production workflows, guiding projects from script to production-ready delivery while making the creative and technical decisions needed to reach the final result.

Workshops

I share production-oriented approaches to AI filmmaking, grounded in filmmaking and VFX principles, with an emphasis on production thinking rather than prompts alone.
